How to Use

There are 4 ways to use the “Copy Anything to Clipboard” plugin:

Automatically with “CSS Selector”
Manually with “Shortcode”

METHOD 1 – Automatically with “CSS Selector”

This is the quick, most useful way and is mostly used by a lot of users with this plugin.

Use this method, if you want to add the copy button automatically to all the elements with the same selector.

Example 1: If your website post contains code snippets in the <pre> tag, then by setting the pre tag as selector in “Copy Anything to Clipboard”, it will automatically add the copy button to all the pre tags. Your users can copy the code snippet with just a click.

Example 2: Your blog post has blockquotes and you want to add the copy button to the blockquote. Simply set blockquote as your CSS selector and all blockquotes will have copy buttons automatically.

How to Use with CSS Selector?

Step 1 – Go to “Copy to Clipboard”
Step 2 – Click on the “Add New” button
Step 3 – Add the selector. E.g. pre or blockquote
Step 4 – Click on “Create”

Installation

Install the Copy Anything to Clipboard plugin either via the WordPress plugin directory, or by uploading the files to your server at wp-content/plugins.
Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress.
Go to “Copy to Clipboard” in your WordPress admin menu to start creating copy buttons.
Choose your method: CSS Selector (automatic), Shortcode (manual), or Elementor/Gutenberg widgets.

How do I add a copy button to my code snippets?: Use the CSS selector method: Go to “Copy to Clipboard” Click “Add New” Add selector pre or code Click “Create”. All your code blocks will now have copy buttons automatically.

The Copy Anything to Clipboard plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting in versions up to, and including, 4.0.3 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Hopefully this can be fixed soon!

The plugin does what it says. It allows you to chose text to be copied in a variety of scenarios and for many use cases. However,.. I do not condone the design choises being made. Loading scripts, regardless of use, on all pages is a no-go. Certainly given the page-speed impact they have High page-speed impact compared to a manual js implementation of a “copy to clipboard” functionality Loading back-end JS files even with the plugin not being used anywhere is a no-go (eg. block-editor.min.js, editor.min.js, etc.) I had to remove the plugin from all client websites. That being said, the support team seems open to feedback for improvement & recognized these issues. So I might give it some time and come back in the future.
